Banana plants bring the tropics to your home with their thick foliage of large leaves. The leaves do grow (relative to the plant's size) quite large and can break under their own weight but this is normal as the plant matures and grows.
 
Keep the soil moist but do not let it stand in water. Mist the leaves weekly. They like bright light but avoid the intense sun.
